The Artist Exchange: 7 Questions with Lane & Melissa of Paradise Found Co.
Tells us a little bit about your business – How did you get started? What made you decide to do what you do?
We are Paradise Found, comprised of Lane & Marissa! We are engaged and getting married this May! We got started first of all to give us a fun project to work on together! We are both creative, Lane being a designer and Marissa being in communications. We have a few really good friends who kept pushing us and pushing us so finally, we gave in. Ha!
How has Disney (the parks, Walt Disney himself, the movies, etc.) influenced your process or creative work?
Just as so many, we were raised watching classic Disney movies, listening to just about everything Alan Menken. We were both a part of the Disney College Program and so we spent a large amount of our free time (and of course our time at work). Our inspiration is heavily based on those things! From there we toss around ideas, concepts, and finally come across something we both love! Our first pin was based on the short “Paper Man” which was something that us as a couple have always adored!
If you could hang out with one person, living or dead, who would that be? What would you do?
Lane’s Answer – Bill Murray, hands down. He’s my favorite actor and just seems like someone you would never tire of hanging out with haha. We’d have to grab coffee and go for a round of golf, Caddyshack style!
Marissa’s Answer – I’d want to hang out with Adele 😍 She is just so carefree and fun to be around, it seems! Plus we could sing together and that would be a dream come true.
What kind of creative patterns, routines or rituals do you have?
Like many it starts mostly out of the blue. We start talking about an article we saw, or as we watch movies, and through that we develop our concepts. But mostly start with brewing some coffee, everything good starts with coffee. ;)
Is there a creative medium you’d love to pursue but haven’t yet?
Video work and photography for both of us. We’ve slightly dabbled in these things but not in a way to really get to express ourselves. So that is something we are very excited to finally branch out with!
What’s your favorite thing you’ve ever created?
It’s got to be our “Paper Delivery” pin based off of the Paper Man short! It speaks to us as a couple, and we hope it resonates with everyone who has gone to the shop to pick one up!
Anything else you’d like everyone to know about?
We are getting ready to launch some new products and designs so keep a weathered eye on the horizon! We are so excited to keep sharing what we do with everyone, you all make us do a happy dance!
